Vintage Sale Recap

If I were to listen to my horoscope, today is suppose to be about finishing chores. It seems though, that I'm doing everything but my chores. Well I'm doing some, but not as much as I'd like. Honestly I would most like to have the days free for my own scheduling, I guess I'll have to wait a little longer for that to happen.

Anyway, I participated in a spontaneous spring vintage sale a couple of weeks ago, and thought I'd give you guys a recap of what went down (if to be a little gangster with my expressions). Jeweler Karen Shavit was my lovely host and I should say I'm quite smitten and jealous of her fabulous studio and backyard. So I'll just leave you to gaze upon the vintage-ness and remind you that it was Karen with her vintage inspired jewels, the lovely Moran Yossef with her slip bags and me with vintage clothing and accessories galore. Enjoy:

People are so inventive -I love these polymer clay boxed creations by doubleparlour. I would love to have these hanging side by side in my room - maybe one day when I'm slightly wealthier.

My Dad Is The Coolest

A hummingbird moved into one of my mothers planters recently. All of us (mom, dad, my sister and me) love animals and were fascinated by this recent addition to our family (and also wondered whether the cat spotted the little thing yet or not). We made sure not to disturb the lovely bird until a few days ago HB (a.k.a hummingbird) decided to explore his new territory and flew into our house. He flew all the way up to the second floor and amazingly did not crash into the window (like many birds like doing). SO, my dad, being the cool guy he is, approached, without caution, and gently put his hand around HB. Personally I would have been freaked out to do that because it's such a small bird and so fragile and it's all flittery but both - man and bird decided to chill. My dad didn't freak and apparently HB didn't either. In fact he looked at me with an expression saying "I wish MY dad was this cool".

My dad carried little HB outside to release him but the little thing was so comfortable inside my dads hand he decided to linger. He just sat on my dads hand looking around, resting, we also discovered that HB was only a baby - he has'nt lost all his gray birth feathers yet (adult hummingbirds have black feathers as far as I know) - my dad had to give him a little boost before he went on his marry way. Great experience.

p.s - I am super annoyed with graphics. I used to be queen of the graphic design when I was younger - really! But now, all I want to do is change the shops banner and NOTHING! bla.

Also

I'm in two very cute treasuries - please take a look and if you want click on the items chosen and comment:

I recently had an online interview for a lovely blog (you'll be notified when it's up), the questions revolved around fashion, vintage, my shop and lifestyle. It got me thinking about where vintage is in my life and how major it's affect is on me (not just in my wardrobe choices). I suppose I'm not the only one who breathes vintage and lives it daily but I've noticed a change in me, vintage wise, since I've opened my shop. "RakShniya Vintage" has been open for a little over 6 months (I haven't decided if that's a lot of a little to me, so much has happened in my life since..) and it's been doing well as far as I'm concerned , however, I've noticed that the more I look for vintage for the shop, the less vintage finds ME. What I mean is that I've suddenly noticed how very few items I find go into my own closet.

This is an issue I know many vintage shop owners deal with. Suddenly things have less appeal. Or at least that's what I thought, but today after really thinking about (because it bothered me) I changed my mind slightly and my conclusion is that I think I've become much more selective with my choices. I used to grab every vintage item I could find (I'm talking years ago when this fascination just started) and hold onto it no matter what (Whetehr I wear it or not), but since I'm surrounded by vintage these days, I can access an extra supply in "RakShniya" (my mom's shop, and literally, my shops mother-shop) and I model 99% of the items I put in my own shop I've learned what I should wear rather as to what I should keep.

It's difficult being this vintage avid and not keeping everything you find, at the back of mind I'm scared the people buying the items won't treat them well, which is obvoisuly silly because I'm thrilled people like and buy what I have to offer - I think these it's are so special. Even though vintage is super trendy these days, I also think vintage education has become something people are more aware of and I can only hope vintage shoppers out there read about their purchases, about the fabric they are made of and how it should be treated and generaly about the era the came from. I know I love to find out about these things and try to educate myself as much as I possibly can.

So anyway, today I went to visit my mom's shop and behold my surprise I tried on a lot of vintage items I found. Not everything fit well or turned out as lovely when it was on me but I did find two items I want to keep that I wanted to share with you. Finding these items made me feel at ease in a time that I really need these moments where everything clicks into place. They are both very basic items but very beautiful and functional (!!) for me (the dress needs ironing and my mother is appalled I'm posting it this wrinckled, forgive me mom and everyone else). I hope you have been finding great items lately.

Happy Birthday Israel

I'm honor of Israels 62nd birthday (quite the baby, I know), I decided to show a selecetion of black and white photos from a flickr group I belong to called Israel in Black and White. It does'nt represent everything about Israel, but it's a nice introduction.

It's Israels Independence day tomorrow (I know, we're big on the holidays lately) and to celebrate some Israeli pride, apparently Moby had a competition, creating a video for his new song 'Wait For Me' and Israeli Nimrod Shapira has won. It's not the official video but it's actually a really lovely video and a lovely song. Enjoy:

My newest baby blue dress is featured in two pretty treasuries - do take a look, click on the items and comment if you'd like. Have a good day.

Good Evening

Besides my personal thoughts about this beautiful song and the amazing Billie Holiday, today is the national memorial day for soldiers killed while in service. Since the army is mandatory here in Israel, and we're not a huge country, almost everyone knows someone (who knows someone..) that was killed while serving in the army. It's sad, and it's even sadder that I can't give my proper respects to this day because of my own personal problems.
